I really didn’t have high hopes for this show, especially with Zurko’s track record of canceling at the last minute. Many vendors were upset at the promise of 10k attendees, in actuality there may have been some where around 300 (probably far less). I met Larry who was at the booth next to mine, is a custom framer and mat cutter, he did some amazing things I hadn’t thought of with my artwork and prints. And I finally met Paul from Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors Expo, My Very First GUEST Appearance, if you’re in the Chicago area, you should come to this show; there are going to be some amazing artists and guests!
I drew this sketch card of Arwen while at my booth…
She didn’t sell at the show (I really didn’t think she would) so on Monday, she was on feebay for a whole 20 minutes, which I think was the fastest sale I’ve ever had there.
You wonder… if it’s standard procedure for Kinko’s to hire jerks to run their stores? It seems every single time I go in to have work done, their employees feel the need to tell me my business or tell me what I can or cannot do with the items being produced, or god forbid they have to do a little work and want to charge me extra because my files are not arranged in order on my disk.
This was the last straw, I have officially fired Kinko’s from my list of vendors. There is only so much crap a freelance illustrator can put up with from someone who’s supposed to be working for me.
So my advice to any freelance artists and illustrator out there is..
Save yourself the headache, avoid Kinko’s at all costs, and find a REAL PRINTER to have your work printed and or laminated.
This is the only craft show I enjoy doing. The temp’s this weekend were HOT, HOT, HOT… but we had a nice shady spot. The crowd was wonderful, it was great seeing people I had met from last year. Thank you so much for stopping by to talk to me, and if you purchased a print, many many thanks! And a very special thank you goes out to the new owner of Gandalf & Gollum, 2 of my 6 returned cards from Topps.
ChicagolandZ: I wasn’t going to, but I decided to go ahead and do it anyway, mainly because it’s only going to cost 45.00, I swear the info I got in the mail months ago said 150.00, which is why I wasn’t going to do it. Anyway, it’s this weekend (June 22, 23, & 24) but I’ll only be there on Saturday & Sunday.
Which means… I have a print order to put in, and I need to get my table banner laminated. I’m glad this one is so close, I hate dumping my cats on my parents again.

really, there were 3 total in this order… this is the first (two left to do).
Yesterday I had some sketch cards printed up on watercolor paper, and I think from now on, I’ll be painting them instead of what I’ve been doing (colored pencil/ink on that brown paper).
Interested in a painted sketch card? Starting price is 30.00.
Several of my pieces have been featured in a Deviant Art New Article, the first three on the page. [ click here to see ]

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have two more cards to list.
**Why feebay? with ebay’s continous rate/fee hikes, has earned them the nickname ‘feebay‘.
