Mighty Con Dupage 2018 [in review]

Mighty Con Dupage has come and gone.  I really thought that there would have been a better turn out with the weather being as hot as it was, I think people opted to stay home where it was cool.  While I didn’t do great, it wasn’t terrible.   I had great neighbors on both sides, I got to chat with young artists, and a few friends I haven’t seen since last year (or maybe the year before).  I’ll most likely do it again next time it rolls around.

Lately I feel like the internet has become a black hole, while people may like your work they wont necessarily give it a like or comment leaving you to wonder if anyone likes your work at all.  And with every site and it’s algorithm, getting your work to your followers is next to impossible.  So getting out to these small local shows is so refreshing.

I’m still working on my Chibi Self Portrait,  I really like how it’s turning out, I’m thinking of using it to rebrand my website.

First & Second Draft:

Second Draft Edited in Photoshop:

And the finished line work on watercolor paper:

Hoping to have it finished today, I have a portrait commission to start.

I’m also thinking of offering this type of portrait as a commission with an option to put it on merchandise for the client.  I can’t remember if Zazzle lets you make private product pages, I know you can’t at Society6.  Would anyone be interested in something like this?

Ok, gotta get back to work, I hope everyone has a great week.

Toy Con Toy Show & General Update

Huge HUGE *Thank You* to everyone that came out to ToyCon yesterday and came by my table. I really enjoyed all of the conversations we had. I’m really happy that you liked my work enough to bring it home with you.

I really like the ToyCon staff, they are really nice, and most of the vendors are nice too. I enjoy doing shows, getting out talking with people, discussing art, pop culture, movies, and music.

Half way into working on this Chewbacca piece I began to get frustrated that I didn’t have the proper browns, and was wishing I had painted it instead. I will probably redo it at some point. I stayed up way too late on Friday working on it, then finished it about 5pm on Saturday. I scanned it and stuck it in my prints layout. Then I put together a special prints package for the show on Sunday. By the time I had everything done it was about 6 – then I ran to the printer.

About 1230a as I was cutting down the 5×7 prints for that special prints package, that’s when I realized I was missing two of the prints for it. I stopped by the printer after the show to get them printed up, I will be cutting & assembling them today and listing them in [ my bigcartel shop ].

I didn’t get done with show prep till 230a Sunday, got up at about 5 and left about 630a and stopped to pick up breakfast with some much needed coffee, I got to the Bridgeview Community Ctr with 15 mins to unload, park the car and set up.

After the show, on the drive home is when the tired hit me. When I got home, the husband helped me unpack my car, I got my flash drive & paper then drove to the printer and got my missing prints done. He (long time employee there) apologized, by this time I wasn’t mad, he let me know that my regular guy had found a new job and let me know who was on the print staff now. *sigh* looks I have new people to break in. =)

So much to do today, back to getting commissions done and out to clients.

Thanks for stopping in to read!

I have lots of arting updates on [ instagram ] and I repost on [ Facebook ], AND I also have a [ Patreon Page ] where you get to help shape the monthly art packages that are mailed out to patrons!

Count – I – Con Day 2

I’ve been doing shows since about 2004, and this one… yeah, we’re just going to chalk this one up to ‘a learning experience‘. Total loss..  Lots of hype, but that’s all it was.

So artists if you’re approached to do this show, just beware, it’s not a good show, especially if they want you to pay for your booth.

On to new and better things – Sketchbooks will start going out this week as I get sketches done. Plus I have a few paintings I’d like to get done before I dig in on Halloween work for The Haunted All Night Flea Market : Freddie, Jason & Regan MacNeil (exorcist), also have some cute Halloween type art to do.

Lots to do!

Next show:
Chi-Pop-Con Oct 7th & 8th – in Carol Stream
and
Wheaton Haunted Flea Market – Oct 22nd.

Here’s a little story video I took for my instagram of my friends Kurt Dinse and Rob Hogan.

The All Night Flea Market – Aug 15th. [Recap]

I remember finding out about this show last year, but I was apprehensive about doing a show that ended at 3am, I thought I’d have a hard time staying awake. It wasn’t so bad. I was in the first row called ‘Star Alley’. Our little area was pretty packed the entire night. Sales were pretty slow till about midnight, I think that’s when my people started filtering in. A few originals got new homes. I even saw the manager from my old day job, I know he was pretty surprised to see me.

I drew a quicky portrait of Lisa Loring as Wednesday, about a minute after I finished the sketch, the traffic in our row kinda died down so I ran over to give it to her. I didn’t even think to take a photo of it, I just wanted to get over there before we had another flood of people. She was wonderful, and wanted to give me a signed picture. Growing up (and even now) The Addams Family is one of my favorite TV shows.

Since our row was a wall of people most of the night I really wasn’t able to get too many pictures (as you can see below). The pictures I did take were early on, not long after set up. There was a local tv/cable/podcast host shuffling about in costume as Ozzy Osbourne. He did it well! =)

to everyone that made this show worth while,
without your support I wouldn’t be able to keep doing these shows.
Next Show: September 11-13 2015 CECE – 1st Annual Fall Festival Carol Stream IL.

Hope to see you there!

WindyCon is in the rear view…

Windycon is behind me now. When all is said & done, I broke even and a made smidge more. Next year I will ONLY be dropping artwork off to be in the Art Show so I will not be attending.

I met some wonderful people, and saw some GenCon artshow regulars. Jon Snow found a new home, that makes me very happy.

A HUGE Thank you to everyone that stopped by my table! You were the ones that made it worth while!

Next up… CapriCon? I will be applying for the CapriCon Artshow for February. I will not be there, I will only be doing a artwork drop off & pick up. Hopefully by then I’ll have some brand new work to show!

GenCon Indy [ReCap]

By far GenCon 2012 was the best yet. For the first time since I started doing shows I was actually ready, I got everything finished that I wanted to have done, no rushing around at the last minute like a chicken with my head cut off!

I’m just going to link to my GenCon 2012 photo album on my facbook because really don’t want to have to upload and code all of the photos.

Also here is one of the bags I did for the Nerdherderspodcast.com.

I want to Thank everyone that made it out to my booth and bought a print, original sketch or one of the framed paintings on my wall.

If you have plans to be at Dragon*Con my friend’s husband is going and he’ll be putting out some freebie postcards from me that also has an exclusive coupon for my Etsy store. So be on the look out.
